This Week I take a look at The South, The Photographs of Ron Galella, The Style of AMC's "Mad Men", and Edmund White's new book "Jack Holmes & His Friend".

I am so glad Andrea! I think The Flaneur is his best work, at least that I have read. I am going to read Sacred Monsters at some point. Thanks for tuning in. x m.

Very well done - the Ron Galella and New Order combo is genius.
I would love your take on why we love Mad Men so! And you know this Southern boy loves to tell a story or two or twenty. a fan

We love Mad Men because it is just like life - dark, unremitting, and never exactly what it seems, and because it is just like shopping. All of those surfaces! Heavenly. And New Order makes everything better. xx.

"Can she talk? You know, birdybirdybirdybirdybirdybirdybirdy..." ---every Southerner knows the answer to that.
As for "Mad Men"---I think that 50 years and 21st century interpretation is what gives it its style and mystique.
But I'm always a sucker for cameo shots of beautiful people. Who was the running man?

The running man was anonymous...protecting the star inside the limo.

Mark, you impress the beegeezus out of me. How do you soak it all up? I love your perspective and learn much from you. The Mad Men tribute was perfect, and the music perfectly matched. Loved it all.. your choice of music, your comments and insights on the books you read (and I agree, Dick reads EVERYTHING!), and now I'm craving Southern food!
love ya',
Ellen
